In the At Large races, I will vote for Alan Lobovits and Rena Getz and ONLY them in those races to increase the power of my votes by not giving votes to candidates with whom I disagree and I don’t feel represent me.

Belleville: The choice is clear!

I am particularly impressed by Rena’s deep knowledge of zoning, land use, housing, historic preservation, and open space issues.

Meirav: Particularly impressed with Rena Getz for At-Large Councilor from Ward 5

More than 16,000 voters cast ballots in Newton’s municipal elections on Tuesday night. Incumbent Andreae Downs and candidate Rena Getz each won a councilor-at-large seat for Ward 5, with Downs receiving 7,728 votes and Getz receiving 7,776 votes.

Getz Wins in Ward 5

Rena is statesman, a thoughtful leader who deeply cares about our lives in Newton and is willing and able to work hard to maintain what we have and still grow the City.

In my extensive conversations with them, I’ve found them to be both supportive of Newton Public Schools and interested in promoting a more collaborative approach.

Getz, Lobovits, and Micley for a more collaborative City Council

Climate Change and the Environment

I am endorsing the following City Council candidates – Rena Getz, Alan Lobovits, Lisa Gordon, Randy Block, Stephen Farrell, and David Micley.

Waller: Zoning shows it’s time to change the Councilors

Currently serving as President of the Waban Area Council, she has led the way in transparency in local government and education about City Hall policies and how they might affect residents.

Lipshutz: Rena Getz’s knowledge of Newton will make her a strong City Councilor

Rena Getz pulled papers to run for one of sixteen At-Large City Council seats, for Ward 5.

Candidates Pull Papers for Nov. 7 City Election

As a City Councilor, I worked to make all City Council votes public on the City website, and to hold open office hours for Newton residents.

Transparency & Accountability

We all benefit when housing stock is diversified so that young professionals, young families, veterans, and seniors can all find housing they are able to afford without being either rent- or mortgage-burdened

Housing Affordability

I will continue to advocate for zoning that values our human-scaled villages, existing neighborhood fabric, historic resources, and disincentivizes environmentally wasteful tear-downs.

Rena will bring both a strong village voice and equally strong citywide experiences to the City Council. She possesses deep institutional knowledge. This is a potent combination of skills that will serve both the city and city council in good stead.

Burke: Rena Getz — A strong village voice with citywide experience

“Like many, we moved to Newton to raise our family,” Getz said on her campaign website. “We chose Newton because of its walkable neighborhood schools, historic village centers and abundant green open space.”

Meet Newton's New City Councilors

It is critical that we prioritize and support our schools, our teachers and our families with children in the Newton Public Schools.
